A Natural Alternative to Fillers

While dermal fillers and neuromodulators are very effective injectable treatments for wrinkles and other signs of aging, many patients are looking for a more natural treatment. PRP offers this option, as it’s derived from your own blood and has the ability to revitalize the skin by stimulating new cell renewal.

Key Benefits of PRP for Facial Rejuvenation

  • Naturally stimulates collagen and elastin production
  • Results in a firmer, tighter, more youthful skin
  • Helps reduces dark circles and hollows under the eyes
  • Lessens wrinkles, fine lines, and scars
  • Minimizes large pores
  • Improves skin tone and texture

All About PRP

While PRP has been used for many years in the medical industry for many different things, including joint pain and hair restoration, it has more recently been introduced as an effective facial rejuvenation treatment.

PRP itself comes from your blood. Our blood contains platelets, which contain dozens of growth factors. These growth factors are key to our body’s wound healing and repair functionality, as they help regulate tissues, cells, and skin by helping them grow, stay maintained, and survive. In short, growth factors result in the skin looking firmer and smoother, while also enhancing the skin’s protective abilities.

Getting Ready for Your PRP Treatment

We recommend the following before your PRP appointment:

  • Avoid having any other facial treatments done for one week before PRP.
  • Reschedule your PRP appointment if your treatment area has acne or any kind of wound or infection.
  • Stop taking anti-inflammatory medications 3-4 days before PRP.
  • Stop taking blood-thinning medication, supplements, or vitamins 1-2 weeks before PRP.
  • Stop taking systematic steroids 1-2 weeks before PRP.
  • Drink plenty of water and get enough to eat before your appointment.

What to Expect During Your PRP Treatment

Before your PRP treatment, we will cleanse and prep your skin. Depending on how your PRP will be administered (injections, microneedling, etc.), you may also be given a topical anesthetic.

PRP treatments consist of three steps: a blood draw, the separation of the plasma, and the administration of the plasma.

We will draw 2 vials of blood from you, and then the blood will be placed into a centrifuge (spinning machine) to separate the plasma from the red blood cells and other components. Once the plasma is separated, it will be placed inside of a syringe so that it can be administered to your skin.

Downtime and Results

After PRP, you’ll be able to resume your regular activities, although you may experience red skin, soreness, bruising, itching, and/or scabs at the treatment sites for a day or so. A cold pack can be used to minimize discomfort or swelling.

It’s important to understand that results are gradual with PRP. Typically, a series of 3 sessions, spaced 4-6 weeks apart, is required for optimal results. Some patients notice improvement after just one session. Once your series of treatments are complete and results have settled, the benefits may last for more than a year.
