What is Upneeq?

Upneeq is an FDA-approved prescription eye drop medication that treats droopy eyelids by lifting the upper lids. It works by using a vasoconstrictor that inhibits blood flow and signals the muscles in the eyelid to constrict. Upneeq can lift the eyelids by one to three millimeters, providing a noticeable brightness and reducing the sleepy aged look droopy eyelids may bring. Upneeq also brightens the whites of the eyes. Users typically only use one drop a day and are rewarded with a refreshed look of more alert, youthful eyes.

What leads to droopy eyelids?

There are a variety of reasons a person might develop drooping eyelids, and not all are because of age. Sometimes eyelid ptosis is genetic. Health issues or surgical procedures may also leave a person with sagging eyelids. Overexposure to computer screens can cause a person to develop droopy eyelids. Eyelid ptosis may also be temporary, as a symptom of feeling tired.

    Before & After

Are there potential side effects to Upneeq?

Upneeq’s active ingredient is oxymetazoline hydrochloride. This hydrochloride salt is found in commonly used nasal decongestants and has been the subject of many clinical studies and research to ensure it is effective and safe. There are few side effects, but rarely, some users may experience irritation, redness, or dryness of the eye after using Upneeq drops.

Are there medical disadvantages to droopy eyelids?

In addition to being potentially aesthetically undesirable, there are medical concerns related to blepharoptosis. Vision impairment can be dangerous and affect one’s mobility. Eyelid ptosis can negatively affect one’s quality of life and get in the way of safely performing daily tasks.
